The History of Paddock's Coffee
Paddock's Coffee TM was founded in the Spring of 2012 by Rick Moss, a Kentucky-born, horse-loving, and self-proclaimed coffee aficionado. For the past three decades, however, Rick has called the West Coast of Florida home while working as a healthcare administrator developing and managing rehab & nursing facilities. During this time, he met and worked with Darrell Reha of Kendar—a custom home builder. Little did they know, their business focus and relationship was about to change in a big, bold way.
In 2008, Rick and Darrell found themselves in the Real Estate Bust, and the Great Recession pushed them to explore other business opportunities. Darrell started a small business, initially sourcing teak wood for boat builders from the Rain Forest of Papua New Guinea (PNG)—located north of Australia in the South Pacific.
One afternoon, while eating in a PNG restaurant, Darrell tasted the coffee, which was brewed from beans grown in the Highland Region of Papua New Guinea. One rich, delicious sip, and he knew what he had to do. Darrell became the importer, forming Komobo, and brought the hand-picked, green beans back to Rick. Rick was so impressed by this coffee, he was determined to roast the beans to perfection. He turned to brew master Chris Keesecker of Java Dawg who employed the time-tested tradition of cast-iron roasting, and Rick's dream for the “Unbridled Taste” of Paddock's Coffee TM was born.
Today, Paddock's Coffee TM is gaining the attention of several large retailers—so watch for whole bean and fresh ground bags on the store shelves soon. We’ll also be promoting the winning combination of Paddock's Coffee TM with the tasty Derby-Pie® from Kern’s Kitchen.
